![]() Most recently, Ms. Becker worked with the American Red Cross as its Director of Development Systems for the organization’s fundraising division. While at the American Red Cross, Ms. Becker played an instrumental role in a 2.5 million record conversion, a system integration for 990 chapters, and process improvement opportunities. Ms. Becker was also a member of the consulting firm of Bentz Whaley Flessner where she assisted higher education institutions and healthcare facilities prepare for major fundraising campaigns or reorganize for optimal efficiencies. She was also the Assistant Vice President for Advancement Services at the University of Washington and managed a staff that supported development and alumni relations. Ms. Becker has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland; a Master of Education in student personnel work in higher education from Loyola University in Chicago; and a Master of Business Administration in higher education administration from the University of Hawaii. Giving for Kent State University, in Kent, Ohio, where he is
responsible for planning and implementing the University’s central
annual giving solicitation efforts. Prior to coming to Kent State, Albert spent seven years at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was the Associate Director of Annual Giving until fall of 2001. At the University of Pittsburgh, Albert successfully managed the conversion of the Pitt TeleFund from a manual to an automated environment, and established the operation as one of the top performing higher-education phone centers in the nation. Krista
Slade was appointed to the newly created position of executive
director of CASE Asia-Pacific in May 2007. In this position, Krista
is responsible for professional development programs, conferences
and other services to meet the evolving needs of the growing
advancement profession throughout Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Krista has spent more than a decade working in the Asia-Pacific region as an alumni relations and fundraising professional. A Canadian citizen, she moved to Hong Kong in 1994 to establish the University of Toronto (Canada) Foundation and to serve as its executive director. In this position, she facilitated the university’s alumni, fundraising and student recruitment activities in Japan, South Korea, China, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and elsewhere. In 2003, she returned to Canada to serve as the University of Toronto’s associate director of international advancement. Most recently, she served as senior strategic adviser for advancement at the University of Melbourne in Australia. Before joining CASE, Krista was a member of CASE and a speaker at various conferences. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Toronto and has studied international Asian studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Krista Slade worked for the Division of University Advancement at the University of Toronto for eight years, based in Hong Kong, Melbourne (Australia) and also on campus. Her responsibilities included regional alumni programming, special development initiatives and administering the University of Toronto (Hong Kong) Foundation. Catherine
Spickard was Executive Director of Development Services at the University of
Michigan. She oversaw the intake, recording,
distribution and reporting of all gifts to the University of
Michigan including securities, which usually number more than
180,000 transactions amounting to about $260-$300 million per year
and was also responsible for managing Alumni and Donor records.
Catherine served as a faculty member at the 2006 CASE Annual
Conference for Senior Advancement Services Professionals and as
Chair of the 2006 and 2007 CASE Gift Processing and Alumni Records Workshops.

![]() Michael published his first email newsletter in the late 1980s and since the early 1990s has concentrated on how the Internet and the Web have changed the way people communicate and how institutions can respond to those needs. He has worked with more than 70 colleges, universities, independent schools, and not-for-profit organizations on Web development initiatives, ranging from developing institution-wide Web strategies to leading Web site development projects. Michael has spoken at hundreds professional conferences (CASE, NACAC, UCDA, and the College Board, plus many others) and leads seminars on developing and using new media in institutional marketing and communications. He is currently writing a book on Web strategy for colleges and universities and has authored book chapters for CASE and Open University Press books. His articles have appeared in CASE Currents, the College Board’s On Target and The College Board Review, and NACAC’s Journal of College Admission, among others. Michael’s experience as a communicator includes media relations, PR, marketing, and publications. Until October 2001, he led the new media practice at Lipman Hearne.
