How do you handle gifts from divorced couples. Frequently Asked Questions

← Back to Frequently Asked Questions Main Page

Create individual records for each couple.

One person is identified as the 'Primary' donor and given hard credit.

Soft credit the spouse while they are married. If they divorce, the records are split in the relationship area as a former spouse, but the giving history remains intact for each person.

Future gifts are only credited to the individual who sends in the check unless otherwise instructed.

You may also have to move original gifts back and forth between the two records in some cases, depending on the divorce proceedings and instructions from the donors.
