How are charitable gift annuities recorded for recognition? Frequently Asked Questions

← Back to Frequently Asked Questions Main Page

Normally they should be recorded at the net present value for gift recognition.

The donor should understand the mechanics of the gift and that the projected return of principle is difficult to recognize as a current gift.

However there are always exceptions, and a donor may also be recognized for the estimated future amount depending on the circumstances.

Any future amount should be soft credited only and not counted as part of campaign totals.
