 Prospect Research Analyst

Job DescriptionUniversity seeks a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join six other Research Analysts in the Prospect Research Unit.

This position is responsible for providing comprehensive research on individuals, corporations and foundations to be used by the Chancellor and other high-level campus officials.

The successful candidate: will conduct financial and biographical research on major gift prospects including investigating, analyzing and synthesizing pertinent information into concise reports; assist Major Gift Officers in the formulation of cultivation and solicitation strategies for prospective donors; track the on-going financial status of major gift prospects as relates to their giving potential; design and conduct proactive screening projects to identify potential new donors to campus; read and monitor several periodicals to identify alumni and friends who appear in the news; contribute articles to the monthly newsletter that identifies new prospects and provides updates on managed alumni for fundraisers across campus; provide consultative services on research methodologies to various campus officials; and use foundation resources to screen and identify sources of funding as needed by campus units.

Qualifications: Candidates should have demonstrated: experience in analyzing principal biographical, corporate and foundation resources; ability to verify facts and resolve discrepancies among various sources; ability to conduct research with accuracy and attention to detail; familiarity and facility with on-line sources including the Internet, CD Rom products, and subscription databases (Lexis/Nexis, Dialog, Dun & Bradstreet, First American Real Estate Solutions, Investnet, etc. preferred); writing and editing skills sufficient to produce print-ready copy with a quick turnaround; ability to interpret and translate complex corporate language into comprehensible terms; ability to work independently and establish priorities while also collaborating with colleagues; interpersonal communication skills to interact with diverse populations; and an ability to adhere to strict confidentiality policies.

Experience in prospect research at an educational institution is preferred.

WordPerfect and Windows experience is desirable. Note that writing samples are required at the interview.
