 Stewardship Program Manager

Under the general direction of the Director of Donor Relations, the Program Manager will assist in the development, implementation and management of a university-wide endowment stewardship program designed to foster and nurture long-term, meaningful relationships between the University and its donors.

This self-motivated, solution-oriented individual will serve as the lead development staff member working to insure that both the donor's intent and the university's needs are respected.

The Program Manager will collaborate effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders including Advancement Finance, faculty, donors, development officers, the scholarship office and others in facilitating the establishment of named funds, monitoring spending of funds, tracking beneficiaries of funds and reporting back to donors on the activity supported through their funds.

Primary goals endowment stewardship program managed by the Program Manager in Donor Relations are to:
  • Help maintain and enhance the university's reputation of integrity, responsibility, and sound fiscal management.
  • Establish a structured, systematic program for endowment stewardship which will outlast changes in staff and assure perpetual and mutually beneficial relationships with donors.
  • Work with schools, colleges and other campus units to ensure endowment income spending is timely and in accordance with the intent of the donor
  • Provide substantive reports to donors regarding the impact of their gift.
  • Support Advancement Finance’s efforts to provide investment and performance information on endowed gifts.


In support of the goals listed above, the duties and responsibilities of the Program Manager include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manages and oversees the administrative and daily operations of the endowment stewardship program;
  • Provides thorough, accurate, and timely responses to all endowment stakeholder requests for information; demonstrates exemplary customer service in all exchanges;
  • Oversees the supervision of personnel and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance;
  • Monitors spending balances of endowment accounts;
  • Consults with and provides support for development officers in various schools and colleges related to establishing endowments or other named funds and to troubleshooting existing funds;
  • Works with Advancement Services and Advancement Finance to create (and make available through Advancement Intranet) user-friendly guidelines and forms related to endowments and named funds;
  • Coordinates with gift administration, Advancement Services, Advancement Finance, development officers and Donor Relations Publications to create, produce and distribute an annual impact report to inform donors about endowed fund activity; Assists the Director of Donor Relations with implementing impact reporting as a compliment to the Advancement Finance annual financial report;
  • Analyzes existing scholarship and endowment databases and makes recommendations for enhancements.
  • Creates templates to send to fund beneficiaries to track spending and impact of endowed funds (including scholarships);
  • Develops systems with effective use of information technology, including databases and spreadsheets, necessary to track and streamline processes.
  • Plans and coordinates complex administrative assignments and special projects within and/or across operating units.
